NATORE, Aug 05: Both hoarders and farmers of the district are happy over the high price of Boro paddy this season.
The farmers of the district have achieved over 0.4 million tonnes of Boro yield this season.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) took all necessary steps to make the farming programme a success.
During the time of harvesting, the peasants sold Boro Tk 700 to Tk 750 per maund.
Now, each maund of Boro is being sold at Tk 1,100 to Tk 1,200 in the retail market while the wholesale rate is Tk 900 to Tk 950.
Wholesalers from different districts across the country are visiting the area to purchase the paddy.
The rice mill owners from all the upazilas of the district are also purchasing the paddy from haats and bazars.
"I have achieved around 230 maunds of paddy from 12 bighas of land this season and sold some 180 maund of produce at Tk 700", said farmer Raihan Uddin of Boraigram upazila.
"I have sold rest 50 maunds of paddy at Tk 55,000 recently", he further said.
Meanwhile, the hoarders are earning Tk 300 to Tk 400 from the sale of each maund of paddy keeping only 50 to 60 days at their godawn.
To preserve a maund of paddy, the hoarders are to spend Tk 100 to Tk 120.
Rahim Sheikh, 45, a farmer under Shingra upazila said he cultivated paddy on five bighas of land spending Tk 55,000 this season and got over 110 maunds of yield. He sells the entire paddy at Tk 1, 32,000 recently.
Deputy Director of DAE Rafiqul Islam said the farmers have achieved a good yield of Boro paddy this season.
