Health workers get priority care

Health workers who are infected with COVID-19 will get priority basis treatment at the Sheikh Russel Gastro Liver Institute and Hospital in Dhaka.

The Health Ministry through the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) forwarded a letter to this end to the hospital authority on Monday, according to officials.

Director of the hospital Prof Faruk Ahmed told the FE that they have received a letter from the DGHS to provide priority basis treatment to health workers infected with COVID-19.

“We are working to meet the goal as directed by the DGHS. Health workers will get treatment on priority consideration like others professionals and groups at the hospital.”

However, he said the hospital has not been prepared as specialised hospital to treat COVID-19 infected health professionals.

Earlier on Saturday the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) wrote to the health minister calling upon for a dedicated hospital.

According to BMA, over 3,500 healthcare professionals have been infected so far, including nurses, physicians, and many senior doctors and ICU experts. And of the total, some 1100 doctors infected while 44 doctors died.
