HC seeks Tk 10m compensation to each injured in lift collapse

A writ petition was filed with the High Court (HC) on Sunday seeking directives on the government to compensate Tk 10 million to each of 12 people who sustained injuries in a lift collapse at Dhaka District and Sessions Judge Court collapsed on March 7.

Advocate Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, member of Dhaka Bar Association and executive member of Lawyer's Family Welfare Association, submitted the petition.

The writ is expected to be placed before a bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal, reports UNB.

In the petition, he also requested the court to direct the government to form a probe committee to investigate the incident and submit its report within 15 days as well as to replace the old elevator with a new one.

On March 7, at least 12 people, including six lawyers, were injured as an elevator of the old building of the court collapsed.
