The High Court has rejected a writ petition seeking its order making mandatory the observance of eight National Days for all political parties and citizens.
A two-member bench of Justice Kazi Reza-ul Haque and Justice Mohammad Ullah rejected it on Monday morning.
Two lawyers – M Mozammel Haque and Md Shahidul Islam – filed the writ petition in the morning of January 5.
Bangabandhu's Homecoming Day, National Mourning Day and Jail Killing Day are among the days the petition sought to be mandatorily observed by all political parties and citizens.
It asked for cancellation of the registration of any political party which refuses to observe the National Days and postponement of the next general election until it is disposed of.
The petition also wanted the issuance of an order by the High Court making 'Joy Bangla' a national slogan for all political parties and citizens.
The Awami League, BNP, Jatiya Party, Cabinet Secretary, Law Secretary and Election Commission were among respondents to the perition.
