The High Court on Sunday rejected a writ petition filed challenging the legality of keeping the post of chief justice vacant and not appointing a new CJ.

The bench of Justice Zinat Ara and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo rejected the petition considering that it was not submitted as the petitioner’s lawyer Eunus Ali Akond was not present before the bench on Sunday.

Earlier on January 3, Advocate Eunus Ali Akond submitted the petition to the HC seeking it directives why the inaction of the authorities to fill the post of the Chief Justice should not be declared unconstitutional.

UNB said the post of Chief Justice fell vacant for more than two months following resignation of Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha on November 10 last year.
