HC orders to submit list of women workers tortured abroad

The High Court has ordered the authorities concerned to submit a list of women workers who have worked abroad and encountered physical and sexual violence there.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and Justice Farid Ahmed passed the order on Tuesday, issuing a rule asking to reply in two weeks as to why the inactions of the concerned officials in providing compensation to the victims shall not be declared illegal.

The court asked Expatriate Welfare Secretary, Director General of the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training, Chairman of Wage Earners’ Welfare Board and president and general secretary of BAIRA to submit the list of female workers within the next one month.

The court passed the order after holding hearing on a writ filed by Justice Watch Foundation, reports BSS.
