HC issues rule over fixing price of kerosene, diesel

The High Court has issued a ruling upon the concerned bodies of the government to explain in one week as to why they should not be directed to fix the price of petroleum fuels including kerosene and diesel.

The High Court bench of Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Md Kamrul Islam Mollah passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed in this regard.

Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) and other respondents have been asked to comply with the rule in one week.

The court also wanted to know in the ruling as to why not publishing the three rules related to fix the price of petroleum fuels including kerosene and diesel prepared in 2012 in the form of gazette should not be declared illegal.

Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua appeared in the court on behalf of the writ petitioner while deputy attorney general Nawraz Md Russel Chowdhury represented the state.

Architect Mobasser Hossain, Convener of the Consumer Association of Bangladesh, filed the writ petition.
