HC issues rule over bail of Dhaka Bank's ex-VP

The High Court on Thursday issued a rule over the bail of former vice-president (VP) of Dhaka Bank and its Dhanmondi branch in-charge Md Aminul Islam in a case filed over misappropriation of Tk 212.49 million by submitting false papers.

In the rule, the court wanted to know from the respondents to explain as to why Md Aminul Islam should not be granted bail in the case. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and other respondents have to comply with the rule within three weeks.

The HC bench of justices Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Ahmed Sohel passed the order after holding a virtual hearing on a bail petition filed by ex-Dhaka Bank VP Aminul.

Advocate Awsafur Rahman took part in the hearing on behalf of the accused while Advocate Kamrunnesa Ratna appeared for the ACC and Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin represented the state.

The case documents said that the accused along with others submitted 26 fake bill papers at Dhanmondi branch of Dhaka Bank and drew Tk 268.59 million against 17 bill documents. Later they returned Tk 56.10 million against four bill papers and embezzled rest of Tk 212.49. They did it by abusing their power and fraudulently creating fake records.

The ACC filed the case with Dhanmondi Police Station on December 23, 2018, against seven accused including Sulatana Fahmida, Dhaka Bank's AVP, Bibhuti Bhusan Bala, owner of Mesers S and S agency, Sheikh Asaduzzaman Mintoo of Mesers Jaman Enterprise and Md Aminul Islam of Mesers Sadat Enterprise.
