The High Court has refused to pass any order on a writ petition, seeking directives on the government to stop allowing cattle markets in the coronavirus-affected areas including Dhaka, Chattogram, Narayanganj, Gazipur and other city corporations.

The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim dropped the writ petition from the cause-list after a hearing on the petition virtually on Wednesday.

Petitioner Md Eunus Ali Akond, a Supreme Court lawyer, said that the HC refused to interfere the government's decision in this regard as the issue involves religious sentiments.

The lawyer submitted the petition on July 16 this year as a public interest litigation with the HC through email to protect people from the virus infection.

He said in the petition that the National Technical Advisory Committee made such recommendations to the authorities concerned to prevent the virus spread.

However, the authorities have allowed cattle markets in different coronavirus-affected areas including Dhaka South City Corporation ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, ignoring the recommendation, which is a violation of the law and the constitution, the lawyer stated in the writ petition.

The committee on Covid-19 has recommended recently not to allow cattle markets in Dhaka, Chattogram, Narayanganj and Gazipur cities ahead of Eid-ul-Azha this year to prevent infection.
