HC asks ex-AB Bank EVP to surrender in eight weeks

The High Court on Monday directed former executive vice-president (EVP) of AB Bank ABM Abdus Sattar to surrender in the trial court within eight weeks in a corruption case.

The High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman passed the order after hearing a petition filed by Abdus Sattar seeking anticipatory bail in the case.

The court also rejected his bail petition.

Advocate Md Kamrul Islam appeared in the hearing on behalf of Abdus Sattar, while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Abul Kalam Azad filed the case on June 8 this year against 17 persons including Abdus Sattar on charge of misappropriating Tk 1.76 billion by issuing loan against seven illegal bank guarantees.

The bank guarantees were prepared by six fake work orders using the names of two contractors of Padma Multipurpose Bridge, Sinohydro Corporation Limited and China Major Bridge Engineering Limited.
