Hasina, Modi inaugurate cross-border oil pipeline construction

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi have jointly inaugurated the construction of the Bangladesh-India Friendship Pipeline.

The two prime ministers opened the construction of the 130km cross-border oil pipeline through a videoconference from their respective capital cities on Tuesday, reports bdnews24.com.

Besides, they inaugurated the construction of an India-financed railway line that will ease travel between Bangladesh and India.

On April 9 last, Bangladesh and India signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Dhaka to set up the oil pipeline between Shiliguri in West Bengal of India and Parbatipur in Dinajpur of Bangladesh.

The oil pipeline will supply 250,000 tonnes of diesel a year to Bangladesh.

The diesel will be transported through a cross-border train from Assam’s Numaligarh refinery to Dinajpur’s Parbatipur depot.
