Harvest of transplanted (T) Aman paddy, a high valued crop, has been completed in all the seven upazilas in Gaibandha during the current season.
Office sources said Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) set a target to bring a total of 1,23,067 hectares of land under T-Aman paddy cultivation this year with the production target of 3,56.894 tonnes of clean rice.
Later, the target fixed by the department was exceeded in the district and more 2723 hectares of land were brought under the farming during the current Aman season, sources said.
Of them, some 19,010 hectares were farmed in Sadar upazila, 15,115 in Sadullapur upazila, 13,570 in Palashbari upazila, 30,350 in Gobindaganj upazila, 27,070 in Sundarganj upazila, 13,250 in Shaghata upazila, and 7,425 in Fulchhari upazila, sources said.
The growers harvested the crop amid much enthusiasm and got desired production against the crop this season.
M Abdul Miah, a farmer of Barobaldia under Malibari union of Sadar upazila, said farmers’ community was much happy as they got desired output against the crop this year.
To make the cultivation programme a grand success, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation timely distributed high quality Aman seed to the farmers of the district at fair prices.
Besides, different state run commercial banks including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank disbursed agri loans on easy terms to the poor and marginal farmers of the district to help them cultivate the T-Aman paddy successfully on their land this season, sources said.
District training officer of DAE Showkat Osman said favorable climatic condition, proper distribution of high quality seed by BADC and timely supply of fertilizers and other agri inputs to the growers were the reasons for getting desired production of the crop.
Apart from this, the DAE also provided training programmes to the farmers of the district for adopting modern technologies of paddy cultivation, crop management and preservation of quality seed, he also said.
Talking to the BSS, deputy director of DAE Krishibid Masudur Rahman said the harvest of the paddy had already been completed and the farmers were taking preparations to farm the Boro paddy, reports BSS.
