Handicapped people demand job transfer to revenue sector

A discussion on development of the handicapped people in progress at Sagar-Runi Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity in the city on Friday.

People with different types of handicaps demanded on Friday that the government immediately transfer their jobs to the revenue sector from the development sector.

They also called upon the government to establish Directorate of Handicapped Development (DHD) without any delay for ensuring their overall welfare and improved life standard.

They placed the demands at a discussion on development of the handicapped people held at Sagar-Runi Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity in the city.

National Handicapped Development Foundation, Handicapped Service and Help Centre Officials and Employees Society organised the event.

Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Social Welfare Begum Aroma Dutta MP as the chief guest said if the government established DHD then the life-standard of the handicapped people would improve significantly.

Chairman of National Handicapped Development Foundation, Handicapped Service and Help Centre Officials and Employees Society Md Rezaul Kabir said it was imperative to establish the DHD.

He said if the government established the directorate (DHD) then it would help generate employment for hundreds of handicapped people.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had made a declaration in 2014 to establish DHD.

During the second meeting of patrons of handicapped people, the Prime Minister in 2015 had also taken a decision to establish DHD.

Associate professor and chairman of the Department of Special Education under the Education and Research Institute of Dhaka University Dr Mahabubur Rahman and Ali Hossain of Association of Blind Graduate Council (Porishad) were present, among others.
