The religious affairs minister has said that currently there is no plan to send government grant to all the mosques across the country equally.

Principal Matiur Rahman said grant is usually given to the mosques from the concerned ministry each fiscal year as per availability of budget allocation after receiving prescribed application forms.

The country has 0.25 million mosques as per the survey conducted by the Islamic Foundation in 2008.

The minister, however, said the government has provided some Tk 114.67 million as grant to 5,399 mosques across the country in 2016-17 fiscal year.

He revealed the information while responding to a tabled question placed by treasury bench member Sheikh M Nurul Haque of Khulna-6 at the Jatiya Sangsad in the capital on Monday.

BSS said the government earlier provided Tk 112.60 million as grant in FY 2015-16 to some 5,356 mosques.
