Govt withdraws DIG Mizan from DMP

The government has removed Deputy Inspector General of police Mizanur Rahman from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police over allegations of abducting a woman and later marrying her forcefully.

Rahman, an Additional Commissioner of DMP, has come under fire after the incident was reported in the media.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan told the media on Tuesday that an inquiry has been opened, says bdnews24.

“He has been removed from the DMP and attached to the headquarters for the sake of a proper investigation,” he said.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, the home minister said, “No-one is above the law. Whoever breaks it will have to face consequences.”

A woman has leveled allegations against the senior police official of abducting her and later marrying against her will.

Four months into their marriage, she posted a photo of Rahman on the social media introducing him as her husband, when the police officer started torturing her physically and mentally, according to media reports quoting the woman.

She claimed that Rahman sued her on ‘false charges’, for which she had to spend behind bars and was later released on bail.

Rahman denied any wrongdoing and claimed the woman was a fraudster.
