Govt to set up three technology centres, one DTC

The government will establish three technology centres (TCs) and one specialised design and technology centre (DTC) aiming to adopt modern technology into the country's manufacturing sector for gearing up industrial productivity, said an official of the ministry of commerce (MoC) said.

The MoC, under its ongoing flagship project titled "Export Competitiveness for Jobs (EC4J)”, will set up the centres.

"We will establish three technology centres and one specialised design and technology centre to accelerate the country's economic growth," an additional secretary of the MoC told the FE on Sunday.

He said the government took the decision to establish the centres with an eye to diversify exportable goods for accelerating the country's economic growth, sustainable development and better jobs opportunity.

He said that to push the plan forward, the MoC will sign a lease agreement with BEZA and BHTPA on Tuesday (July 21, 2020) through Zoom platform for getting lands to establish technology centres.

He said that the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) and Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) will allocate 10 acres and 4.04 acres of land respectively for establishing the state-of-the-art centres.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi will present as the chief guest at the virtual signing ceremony.

Prime Minister’s Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman Fazlur Rahman and State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) division Zunaid Ahmed Palak will remain present on the occasion as the special guests.

Commerce Secretary Dr Md Jafar Uddin will chair the virtual signing ceremony.
