Govt to set 3,600-MW LNG based power plant at Payra

The government has undertaken another project to set up a 3,600 megawatt (MW) power plant based on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) at Payra upazila of Patuakhali district.

North-West Power Generation Company Limited (NWPGCL) and Germany based Siemens AG is signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for installing the power plant on Sunday.

"The NWPGCL and the Siemens AG will jointly finance the project," director for public relation department of Bangladesh power development board (BPDB) Chowdhury Saiful Hasan said.

According to the project details, the two companies will build the 3,600-MW power plant having three units with electricity generation capacity of 1,200-MW each.

The companies will also construct the LNG terminal there for ensuring availability of necessary natural gas to generate electricity, reports BSS.

Prime Minister's Energy Advisor Dr Towfiq-E-Elahi Chowdhury, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, Chief Coordinator (SDG) of the Prime Minister's Office Md Abul Kalam Azad and Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr Thomas Prinz will witness the MoU signing ceremony at Bidyut Bhaban in the capital city.
