Govt to modernise telecom facilities

The government plans to modernise telecommunication facilities in the country.

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday approved a project in this regard.

The project titled ‘Modernization of Telecommunication Network for Digital Connectivity’ project involving Tk 25.73 billion was approved  at the Ecnec meeting held at NEC conference room, reports UNB.

ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said a total of 10 projects were approved involving an estimated cost of Tk 57.83 billion.

"Of the total project cost, Tk 32.96 billion will come from the national exchequer, Tk 150 million from the organisation's own fund while the rest of Tk 24.72 billion from project assistance," the minister said.

Of the approved 10 projects, nine are new while one is revised project.
