Govt to launch COVID-19 vaccine registration app soon

The government is going to launch a mobile application (app) to conduct the registration process for the government-run COVID-19 vaccine programme, official sources at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) have said.

The app, which will determine the appropriate recipients of COVID-19 vaccine on priority basis, is expected to be launched at least two weeks before the arrival of the first shots of the vaccines in the country.

“The process to launch the app is on the final stage. But we have some official process and procurement works before the launch. An exact date is yet to be fixed but it will be ready in a very short time,” Additional Director at DGHS Dr Habibur Rahman told the FE.

The Management Information System of DGHS will own the app, he mentioned saying that the Information and Communication Technology Division and the government’s a2i programme are jointly working to develop the app.

The open source and free app will be available with Google Play, Apple store.

“It’s a self-registration app. Patients will come under a criteria while opening the app for registration and the app will automatically put him/her on the given stage and determine who is registered for which phase for vaccination.”

We have a number of phases to operate the whole vaccination programme in the country, and according to the government’s priority list for Covid-19 vaccine frontline doctors are in the first phase vaccination programme, he continued.
