Govt takes steps to ensure speedy disposal of cases: Anisul Huq

Law Minister Anisul Huq on Monday said the doctrine of rule of law has its origin in England and it is one of the fundamental characteristics of the British constitutional system.

It lays down that the law is supreme and hence the government must act according to law and within the limits of law.

He said Sheikh Hasina's Government has not restricted its movement to establish the rule of law to only high profile cases but has taken steps to ensure speedy disposal of cases.

The AL government is committed to formulating independent and defined policies for rule of law to ensure the security of life and property of the people, protection of individual rights and the dissention of justice on the basis of the equality and fairness, he added.

The citizens of the country can now say with utmost confidence that no criminal will indemnified or protected because of their political background or power, he added.

The law minister came up with the remarks while presenting a key note paper at a scholarship giving ceremony held at Dhaka University (DU) organised by Justice Sikandar Ali Trust Fund.

The scholarship was handed over to some meritorious students of Department of Law of DU.

The National Parliament Dr Shirin Sharmin Chadhury MP spoke at the function as the chief guest, while DU Treasurer and also the chairman of trustee board of “Justice Sikandar Ali Trust Fund” Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin chaired the event.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman , Dean of the Faculty of Law Professor Dr Md Rahmat Ullah were present as the special guest.
