Govt takes responsibility of injured journalists’ treatment: Inu

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu has said the government has taken the responsibility of treatment of the journalists who were attacked during the recent student movement seeking safer roads.

The President of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) came up with the remarks while inaugurating a tree fair at Bheramara upazila in Kushtia, reports UNB.

"The government totally agrees with the demands of journalists. We have talked with the Home Ministry about the legal steps against the attackers. The perpetrators will be arrested and brought under justice very soon", he said.

"BNP-Jamaat has failed to turn their conspiracy into movement so their heart is burning. The government has been implementing the demands of students, so they can't fish in the troubled waters taking advantage of students' movement", he said.

JSD organising secretary Abdul Alim Swapan, its Bheramara unit president Ataur Rahman, Bheramara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sohel Maruf were present among others.

At least seven photojournalists were injured in attacks by unruly youths in the capital's Jigatala and Science Laboratory areas on August 5, while taking snaps of an attack on protesting students.

The injured were identified as AM Ahad of international news agency the Associated Press (AP), Zawad of the Daily Janakantha, Palash of the Banik Barta, Rimon of US-based Zuma Press, Sharif of the Dainik Naya Diganta, freelancer Rahat, and a photography student of Pathsala South Asian Media Institute, Enamul Hasan.
