Govt promotes 391 officials to deputy secretaries

The government has initiated promotions on a massive scale for the sixth time by elevating 391 senior assistant secretaries to the post of deputy secretary.

They were attached to the public administration ministry as officers on special duty following an order issued on Tuesday night. Their assignments will come in a separate order.

This time, officers of the 24th batch have been considered for the posts. Previously, the officers from other batches were promoted to the same rank.

With the latest promotions, the number of deputy secretaries has risen to 1,745, whereas there are only 800 permanent posts of deputy secretary.

Last year on Dec 22, the government promoted 193 deputy secretaries to joint secretaries. On Dec 11, it promoted 128 joint secretaries to additional secretaries, according to bdnews24.

On Apr 23, a total of 267 senior assistant secretaries were promoted to deputy secretaries. In November last year, 536 officials were elevated to deputy secretaries, joint secretaries and additional.

In May 2016, the government promoted 217 officials to the same posts while 873 got the ranks of deputy-secretary, joint secretary and additional secretary in June 2015.
The Awami League government promoted 2,528 officers to different ranks between 2009 and 2013.

Among them, 78 were promoted to secretaries, 293 to additional secretaries, 1,091 to joint secretaries and 1,066 to deputy secretaries.

In November 2016, 536 officials were elevated to deputy secretaries, joint secretaries and additional secretaries.
