Govt plans safe drinking water project for city dwellers

The government has initiated a project to provide safe drinking water in the capital as per demand.

The ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives will implement the project, titled 'Dhaka Environmentally Sustainable Water Supply Project (DESWASP)', by December 2021.

LGRD Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain came up with the statement in the Parliament on Tuesday while responding to a written question from lawmaker MA Latif (Chittagonog-11).

Under the project, water will be collected from the Meghna River and be purified at the plant on the east bank of the Shitalakshya River.

According to BSS, the minister said around 500 million litres of water will be supplied from the project in the capital.
