The government plans development, renovation and extension of some 10,000 universal social infrastructures in all upazilas except the city corporation areas by June 2020.
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) on Wednesday approved a project, titled ‘Universal Social Infrastructure Development Project’, involving Tk 6.65 billion in this regard, reports UNB.
The Ecnec meeting was held at the NEC conference room in Dhaka with its Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) under the Local Government Division will implement the project.
Under the project, Tk 10 million will be allocated for each of the upazila, for the development of social infrastructures like graveyards, mosques, crematories, temples and churches.
The list of these 10,000 social and religious infrastructures were prepared following the recommendations of public representatives, representatives of the institutions and local people alongside actual status of these infrastructures.
Under the project, Tk 1.09 billion will be provided as block allocations to provide more than Tk 10 million if there is more requirement.
The Ecnec meeting also approved Important Rural infrastructures development of Sylhet Division project with an estimated cost of Tk 12.14 billion and Important Rural infrastructures development of greater Comilla (3rd phase) project with an estimated expenditure of Tk 9.86 billion.
Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) will implement both the projects by June 2022.
The above project in Sylhet Division will cover 39 upazilas of Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj and Sunamganj districts while the project in greater Comilla will cover 34 upazilas of Comilla, Brahmanbaria and Chandpur districts.
Regarding the approval of the construction of multistoried integrated government office building in Gopalganj project with Tk 979.4 million, AHM Mustafa Kamal said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has suggested accommodating all government offices in a single building in each district to render services to the common people from one building.
The minister said a total of 10 projects were approved today with an estimated cost of Tk 51.80 billion.
"Of the total project cost, Tk 44.62 billion will come from the national exchequer, Tk 199.3 million from the organisation's own fund while the rest of Tk 6.98 billion from project assistance," he said.
Of the approved 10 projects, nine are new while one is revised project.
