The government plans to set up a shipbuilding and recycling industry at Tetulbaria in Taltoli upazila close to Payra seaport.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu revealed this on Sunday while speaking at a meeting at Barguna, as per a BSS report.
"We have a plan to set up a shipbuilding and recycling industry at Tetulbaria to fulfil the promise of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as she was elected Member of Parliament from this area in 2001 and promised to work for the development of this area," said Amu.
Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan and the industries minister proposed sites of 150 acres of land for shipbuilding and ship recycling industries.
Dhirendra Devnath Shambhu, MP, additional secretary of industries ministry Mizanur Rahman and Barisal Divisional commissioner Md Shahiduzzaman were present.
