The government has decided to impose a ban on holding meetings or rallies on streets of the capital on working days.
The move has been initiated with an aim to lessen public sufferings from severe traffic gridlock.
The Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) took the decision on Sunday at its 10th board meeting at the conference room in Dhaka.
Road Transport and Bridge Minister Obaidul Quader presided over the meeting.
The DTCA decided to allow public gatherings on streets during Friday and Saturday as traffic on the weekends remain comparatively less than other working days.
Addressing the meeting, the minister said the numbers of meetings, processions, rallies are likely to increase ahead of election in coming days leading to cause severe sufferings for commuters.
The Awami League General Secretary urged Dhaka Metropolitan Police to enforce drive on motor cycles for checking more than double ridings and ensuring wearing helmets.
The meeting also approved to launch Bus Net service in two pilot routes in the city under the leadership of DTCA.
Late Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq took this initiative aiming to run buses of different companies under this service. But this initiative was stagnant after his death.
Remembering the late mayor, Obaidul Quader urged all to take decisions through coordination.
Board members decided to form a committee comprising all concerned ministries and representatives from bus owners and workers in this regard.
Representatives from different government agencies, city corporations, bus owners and workers bodies attended the meeting.
