Govt gets no application for Khaleda’s treatment abroad, home minister says

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Tuesday said the government has not received any request so far to take BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia abroad for her medical treatment.

“We have not received any application from Khaleda Zia’s family to take her abroad for treatment,” he said while talking to journalists after distributing ‘Eid gifts’ on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to unemployed people at Nazneen School in the city’s East Rajabazar.

The minister said the government has already extended Khaleda Zia’s imprisonment suspension for another six months allowing her to receive treatment staying home.

He said Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given gifts to thousands of people so that they can enjoy Eid along with all.

“Our Prime Minister always thinks about the common people as well as unemployed and the poor. She has realised that the poor and unemployed people would also celebrate the Eid, so she has given the Eid gifts to them,” he added.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched the second phase of cash support disbursement among 36.50 lakh families hit hard by the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

Each beneficiary family received Taka 2,500 as Eid gift from the Prime Minister in this pandemic gripped difficult time and a total amount of Taka 912.50 crore has been allocated for it.

President of Awami League Dhaka North Sheikh Bazlur Rahman, General Secretary SM Mannan Kochi, Organising Secretary of Awami Swechhasebok League and Ward Councilor Faridur Rahman Khan Iran were present at the ceremony.
