Govt forms body to probe Baghaichhari killings

The government has constituted a seven-member committee to investigate the incident in which gunmen in Rangamati’s Baghaichhari shot dead seven people, including election officials.

Chattogram Divisional Commissioner's Office formed the panel headed by Deepak Chakraborty, a local government division director for Chattogram region, on Tuesday.

The committee has been asked to submit a report within 10 working days, Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Abdul Mannan said, reports bdnews24.

Earlier on Monday, gunmen in Rangamati shot dead the seven after the end of second phase of the Upazila elections boycotted by an organisation of Chattogram Hill Tracts people.

At least 11 others were injured when the gunmen carried out the attack in Noi Mile area on Baghaichhari-Dighinala road.

The investigation committee is also to determine the reasons for the killings, extent of damages, and recommend ways to prevent a repeat of such violence in the area.
