Religious Affairs Minister Principal Matiur Rahman on Thursday told parliament that the government formed a committee seeking its report against the hajj agencies involved in anomalies.
The minister said it in reply to a question from Awami League MP Abul Kalam Azad (Jamalpur-1) at the parliament.
367 people could not go to Saudi Arab to perform the hajj despite issuance of visas against their names in 2017.
"A committee has been formed seeking its report with its recommendations after completing hearings on the allegations raised against some hajj agencies," he said.
A total of 127,229 Bangladeshis went to Saudi Arab to perform hajj in 2017, added he, reports UNB.
Of them, 121,764 people went to perform hajj under private management while 4,195 under the government management and 1270 others went there as part of hajj management, he added.
In reply to a starred question from AL MP Jebunnesa Afroze (Barisal-5), the Religious Affairs Minister said a total of 999 people performed holy hajj with the government cost in the last four years.
Of them, 125 hajj pilgrims went to Saudi Arab with the government cost in 2014, while 266 in 2015, 288 in 2016 and 320 in 2017, he said.
