Govt declares March 1 as National Voters' Day

The government has decided to observe March 1 every year as the National Voters' Day.

The decision was taken in the weekly cabinet meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair at her office on Monday.

Briefing reporters at Bangladesh Secretariat Secretary of the Cabinet Division (Coordination and Reforms) NM Ziaul Alam said the day will be observed complying with the resolution of the Forum of Election Management Bodies of South Asia.

Every country in the SAARC region observes their own national day for voters, he said, reports BSS.

Bangladesh will observe the day to make the people particularly youths aware about democracy, election and their voting rights, he said, adding that the day will be classified in the Kha list.

Ziaul Alam said the government has selected the month of March for observing the National Voters' Day considering the importance of the month in the national life.
