Govt bans open-air events on New Year’s Eve

No open air event will be allowed on New Year’s Eve, said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan.

"We won't allow any meeting, rally and musical event in the open place for the celebrations of the New Year for the sake of people's security. All programmes must be held indoors," said he.

Kamal said it while talking to reporters after inaugurating Dhaka Metropolitan Shooting Club at Bangladesh Police Officers' Mess in the city on Tuesday.

The minister also said all bars across the country will remain closed on the day, says UNB.

The function was attended, among others, Secretary General of Bangladesh Olympic Association Syed Shahed Reza, Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque, Additional Inspector General Mokhlesur Rahman and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia with Dhaka Metropolitan Shooting Club President Siddiqur Rahman in the chair.

Earlier on December 19, the DMP chief at a meeting announced a ban on meetings, rallies, musical events and fireworks on December 31.
