Govt appoints Ahmed Jamal as BB deputy governor

The government has appointed Bangladesh Bank’s Executive Director Ahmed Jamal as Deputy Governor of the central bank on contractual basis.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification in this regard on Thursday.

Jamal was appointed the deputy governor based on agreement following his resignation from his previous post, said the circular.

According to bdnews24.com, he will remain in the post till June 30 of 2023. 

Earlier, the government formed a search committee in December last year to recommend candidate for appointing a new deputy governor.

Bangladesh Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) Chairman Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad was the head of search committee.

The government made the appointment based on the report of search committee.

Ahmed Jamal replaced SK Sur Chowdhury. The service tenure of SK Sur Chowdhury was ended on January 31. He is now serving as an advisor of the central bank.

There are four posts of deputy governor in the central bank.

Abu Hena Mohd Razee Hassan and SM Moniruzzaman are also working as deputy governor.
