GOPALGANJ, Apr 02: Farmers of Moksudpur upazila in the district are expecting a plenteous production of BARI Wheat-30 as the harvest is going on in full swing.
According to the upazila DAE office, a total of 3,752 hectares of land in the area have been brought under BARI Wheat-30 cultivation with the production target of 13,132 tonnes.
Kalam Sikder of Provakardi village said he cultivated the wheat on one bigha of land this season.
"I have got 18 maunds of wheat the market price of which is around Tk 21,000. My production cost was Tk 12,000", the grower added.
Some farmers said BARI Wheat-30 is a new high-yielding variety. It is gaining popularity among the cultivators of the upazila.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Nitul Roy said around 20,000 farmers in the area cultivated BARI Wheat-30 this year.
"We hope the wheat farming area will increase in the coming years", the official added.
Samir Kumar Goshwami, deputy director (Agriculture), said Muksudpur is renowned for growing quality wheat. About 50 per cent of the total wheat yield in the district comes from the upazila.
"BARI Wheat-30 variety is also suitable for the area. We expect that cultivation of the wheat variety will expand in the coming seasons."
