RANGPUR, July 28: A good yield of guava has brought smile on the growers across the district this year.
Sources said encouraged by good profit and easy cultivation process farmers of the region are getting interested in guava cultivation as a result its cultivation has increased significantly.
A good number of farmers of the region have changed their fortune by cultivating this delicious fruit in recent years, sources further said.
Presently, harvesting of the fruit is going on in full swing across the district. Successful cultivation of it has also ushered hope and aspiration to other farmers of the region. The farmers are showing much eagerness to cultivate it in next season.
According to the agriculturists the soil of many areas of the region is suitable for its farming.
Raihan, a grower at Kukrul area under Rangpur city told The Financial Express that he has been cultivating guava successfully in his 45 decimals of land for the last several years and earning good profit.
Witnessing his success, many people have engaged themselves in its cultivation, he also said.
A number of growers at different areas under the region said they have been cultivating the fruit in their homestead and lands for many years and selling those at a good price.
Ashraful Islam (48), a guava cultivator of Hamidpur village under Mithapukur upazila said that he has cultivated guava on one bigha of land. He has already earned Tk 50,000 by selling his produce.
He is expecting to earn more profit during the remaining part of the season. He has managed to alleviate poverty through its cultivation, he also said.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Rangpur official sources said cultivation of guava and some other fruits is on the increase across the region due to good profit.
The department is providing necessary supports to the growers in order to enhance production of different varieties of fruits including guava in the district, sources added.
