GCC polls: CEC warns of stern actions against irregularities

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has warned of taking tough action against those who will be responsible for committing irregularities in the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) polls.

Talking to the reporters at Deputy Commission (DC)'s office in Gazipur, the CEC came up with the remarks on Wednesday.

He also expressed satisfaction over the atmosphere of the GCC polls and said "No Army will be deployed in the polls."

"Though 84 days have been passed since the announcement of election schedule, the law and order situation still remained normal in Gazipur, so the voting will be free and fair", he said.

Election Commissioners Mahbub Talukdar, Md Rafiqul Islam, Begum Kabita Khanam, Brig General Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury and EC secretary Helal Uddin, among others, were present at the meeting, reports UNB.
