Four children, including two siblings, were killed as a boat capsized in a beel (water body) of Bymile in the city on Saturday afternoon while they were having a boat ride on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Mim, her brother Sohag, their neighbours Sadia and Parvin, all residents of the area.
Abbas Uddin Khokon, councillor from ward-12 of Gazipur City Corporation, said nine children, aged 8 to 12, went on a boat journey in the water body in the afternoon as part of the Eid celebrations.
However, the boat sank around 4:00 pm after it developed a crack in the bottom, he said.
The four children met the watery burial while the rest managed to swim ashore, the counillor said.
