A gas leakage was detected at the explosion site in the city's Moghbazar area on Sunday morning, a week after a huge blast occurred there claiming ten lives.

Following the detection, a team of Titas Gas sealed off the leakage in the evening.

On information, a unit of fire service and civil defence followed by a team of Titas Gas reached the spot and took necessary steps.

Sabil Awal, a manager of Titas Gas, said a team of the state-owned gas distribution company had visited the spot in the morning. "No legal gas connection is supposed to exist there, we are inspecting how the gas connection is installed and who are using it," he told the media.

However, a Riser of a gas line, found next to the blast-affected building, was used by dwellers in a neighbouring building.

Responding to a query, Titas Gas official said gas supply was not stopped following the massive explosion.

Fire service Deputy Director Debashish Bardhan said a gas line was detected on the ground floor of the affected building.

The rescuers took necessary measures so that no mishap takes place there, he said.

Meanwhile, agencies concerned were yet to reach a concrete conclusion as to why such a massive explosion occurred on June 27.

After the explosion, four separate probe committees were formed - by police, fire service and civil defence, Titas Gas and the Department of Explosives - to reveal the cause.

However, the probe committees initially said the presence of methane gas caused the blast but how it was formed there remained unsolved.

In the evening on June 27, a massive blast rocked the Moghbazar wireless gate area that led to partial collapse of the three-storey building and shattered glasses of other neighbouring buildings.

Several dozens of people, including passengers of vehicles plying near the spot, were injured in the incident.

Police filed a case against unknown individuals on the charge of negligence leading to death with the Ramna Police Station a day after the blast took place.
