Three people have suffered burns in a gas fire at a home in West Bipile area in Dhaka’s Ashulia.

The incident that took place in the area on Saturday morning also damaged an electronics shop and a furniture shop.

Fire Service official said that a gas leak from the stove may have started the fire, reports bdnews24.

The official—Humayun Kabir, station officer at DEPZ Fire Service Station—said  the fire broke out at the single storey house owned by one Mostafa Dewan at Bipile around 5:00 am.

A fire service team went to the scene and doused the fire, he said.

Akram Hossaim, his wife Lovely Akhter and their 8-year-old son Ashiqur Rahman have been admitted to the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital with injuries.

Both Akram and his wife work at a garment factory in Ashulia.

“It is assumed that the gas had spread all over the house from the leaked cylinder. The fire broke out in the morning when they attempted to light the stove for cooking,” said Humayun Kabir.

Shohagh, a neighbour, said he woke up that morning after hearing a bang. He said he saw Akram and his wife fleeing the house while on fire.

The three victims were rescued and sent to the hospital, he said.
