Golam Mostafa, MP of Gaibandha-1 constituency, who was critically injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Tangail Highway in November, died at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital Tuesday morning.

He breathed his last around 8:00am, said CMH sources.

President Md Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker of the House Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah have expressed their condolences over Mostafa’s death, reports bdnews24.

The first namaz-e-janaza of Mostafa will be held at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad at 12:00pm today, news agency UNB reported, citing a PID handout.

Earlier, on November 18, MP Golam Mostafa was injured in a road accident as he was travelling to Dhaka from his constituency by microbus. Four, including the MP and the driver, were injured when the microbus collided head-first with a bus headed for Rangpur in Tangail’s Natiapara.

Mostafa was moved from Tangail Sadar Hospital to Dhaka soon after the accident due to a critical head injury. His condition improved slightly after he was brought to the Combined Military Hospital.

But the representative from Sundarganj eventually succumbed to the injuries a month afterwards.

Mostafa, who had been the general secretary of the Sundarganj Awami League for a few decades, received the party’s backing for the bypolls scheduled after the murder of former Sundarganj MP Manjurul Islam Liton on Dec 31 of last year.

On Mar 22 of this year, Mostafa beat a Jatiya Party candidate for the seat.
