Four students killed in Bagerhat road crash

Four madrasa students were killed and another injured as a truck hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Shyambagat area in Fakirhat upazila of Bagerhat on Sunday, police said.

The deceased were identified as Abdullah Al Mahmud, 25, son of Hossain Ali of Ranjitpur village in Sadar upazila; Abdul Gafur, 14, son of Ferdous Ali of Jhanjhania village of Rampal upazila; Salauddin, 17, son of Ashraf Ali of Malekha village in Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira district and Shakib Hassan, 17, son of Abu Bakkar Sheikh of Piljanga village of Fakirhat upazila.

All of them were students of Hakimpur Qawmi Madrasa in Bagerhat Sadar, reports bdnews24.com.

Mohammad Ali, OC of Katakhali Highway Police in Bagerhat, said when the CNG auto-rickshaw was returning to Hakimpur with the five madrasha students a truck from Mongla collided with it around 12 am, leaving three students dead on the spot.

Two injured students were taken to Khulna Medical College and Hospital. Later, Shakib was being shifted to Dhaka hospital for better treatment but succumbed to his injuries on the way.

The driver managed to flee with the truck after the accident.

The bodies were recovered and taken to the highway police station, he said.
