Four arrested for vandalising Bangabandhu’s sculpture

The law enforcement agencies have arrested four people in connection with vandalism of a sculpture of Bangabandhu in Kushtia.

“We have already arrested four people in this connection,” Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told journalists at his secretariat office on Sunday, reports BSS.

Two persons were arrested first and as per the information gleaned from them, police arrested two others, the minister said, adding, “Our law enforcement agencies have been alert.”

He said an investigation is underway into the vandalism of a sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kushtia.

“Case will be filed against those who will be found guilty in the investigation. None will be spared,” Kamal said.

Replying to a question, the minister said, “The government will not allow any kind of anarchy in the country.”

Citing examples of different countries, he said that in the age of Muslim civilisation, sculptures of many Muslim scholars like Alberuni and Ibn Battuta were created in different places.

“We have seen sculptures in many Islamic countries. Saudi Arabian King’s picture is on currency, Qaed-e Azam’s picture and Indonesian head of state’s picture on their currencies. We are carrying those in our pockets,” Kamal added.
