Former high commissioner of Bangladesh Mohamed Khairuzzaman was released from detention in Malaysia on Wednesday.

Khairuzzaman’s lawyer Ngeow Chow Ying confirmed the news on Wednesday, Malaysian news agency The Star reports.

The lawyer said he was released at 3.35 pm on Wednesday (Malaysian time) from the Immigration Department depot headquarters in Putrajaya.

“He is staying at home and his release is unconditional.”

On Feb 10, Malaysia's Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said that Mohamed Khairuzzaman’s arrest was carried out legally.

Mohamed Khairuzzaman, who has been living in Malaysia for years as a refugee, was detained at his home in Ampang on February 9.

On Tuesday (Feb 15), the High Court of the country granted an interim stay on an order to deport Mohamed Khairuzzaman.
