Forest ministry set to plant saplings to commemorate martyrs

The environment and forest ministry is set to plant trees in different educational institutes of the country to commemorate the freedom fighters who gave up their lives for the independence of the country.

Environment and Forests Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud said it on Monday while presiding over an inter-ministerial meeting at the conference room of the ministry at Secretariat.

"We have taken the initiative to pay tribute to the three million martyrs by planting three million saplings at different educational institutions across the country, which would also play an important role to enrich our environment," said he.

The initiative would be implemented on June, the month of tree plantation, involving the primary school students, Mahmud added, as per a report on state-owned BSS.

Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman, State Minister for Technical and Madrasa Education Kazi Keramat Ali were present, among others.

Chief Conservator of Forests Mohammed Shafiul Alam Chowdhury said the forest department has already started producing saplings in this regard.
