Foreign ministry seeks help to bring back Bangabandhu’s killers

The Bangladesh foreign ministry sought assistance from the foreign countries to bring back the five fugitive killers of the founder president Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Foreign ministry sought the diplomatic help in order to find out the killers who are reportedly hiding in different countries to avoid court verdict.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen requested the foreign diplomats in a virtual meeting where some 83 high commissioners and ambassadors in Dhaka and in India (designated for Bangladesh) participated.

Law Minister Anisul Huq and State Minister for External Affairs Md Shahriar Alam were also present at the meeting marking the 45th death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day, said a press statement of the ministry on Sunday.

Foreign minister Momen said that five fugitive killers of Bangabandhu have been absconding in different countries.

Location of two have been known while information of rest three are still unknown, he added seeking assistance of the friend countries to know their whereabouts.

The government wants to implement the court verdict to ensure justice, rule of law and good governance in the country, he added further.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was murdered by a group of army officers in a coup on august 15 in 1975.

Later, court of the country sentenced 12 people to death for their involvement in the brutal killing while six have been executed and five are absconding, and one died in Zimbabwe in 2001.
