Manpower recruiters urged the authorities concerned not to allow any syndication in the manpower sending process to Malaysia to protect the interests of the sector.

They made their call at a meeting under the banner ‘BAIRA Syndicate Nirmul Oikkojot’ in the capital on Monday.

Ali Haider Chowdhury, former secretary general of Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA), presided over the meeting.

Benjir Ahmed and Abul Bashar, former presidents of BAIRA, and association’s other members were present at the meeting.

BAIRA secretary general said they are against any kind of syndication in the migration sector as it is harmful to the recruitment process.

In the past, syndication harmed the sector a lot. So, they are protesting such anomaly. They want to draw the attention of the government to resolve this crisis.

“We want to operate our business smoothly as we are the authorised recruiting agents,” he said and added that the authorities concerned cannot stop their business until they have the licenses.

However, according to a written speech, BAIRA members are worried about syndication as they learned from media that 20 to 30 recruiting agencies are trying to create a syndicate again in recruitment system regarding the Malaysian job market.

It also said, earlier a 10-member syndicate sent workers to Malaysia with high migration cost that made a negative impact on the Bangladeshi market in the international arena.

They urged the Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry not to allow any syndication to protect the interests of this vital sector that brings a significant amount of remittances each year.
