Food stock in Bangladesh reaches 1.6m tonnes

The country’s food grain stock reached 1.6 million tonnes at present.

Food Minister Mohammad Qamrul Islam made the disclosure on Monday.

”The food grain stock in the country till September 5, is 1.3 million tonnes of rice, 18,140 metric tonnes of paddy and 235849 tonnes of wheat,” he said this, while replying to a question from treasury bench member Didarul Alam of Chittagong-4 constituency in the Jatiya Sangsad, reports BSS.

He said that during the year of 2017-2018, the government collected 601,984 metric tonnes of rice from domestic source against the target of 602,000 tonne in the Aman season.

The Food Minister said, in the current Boro season, the government targeted to procure 1. 2 metric tonnes of pure rice, 150,000 metric tonnes of rice and 27,000 metric tonnes of paddy from the domestic sources.

Out of the target, the government procured 1.2 million metric tonnes of rice and 20,668 metric tonnes of paddy till September 5, 2018, he informed the House.
