Food minister urges people to eat red rice

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder has urged people to eat red rice instead of white rice.

“There is no Najirshaile or Miniket rice in Bangladesh. The traders are selling differ variety of rice in the name of Miniket and Najirshaile,” said the minister.

He said this while talking at a press briefing on the occasion of the International Nutrition Olympiad 2021 at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday, reports UNB.

“The thin rice which is sold in the name of Miniket is actually Jeera Saile and Shampa Katari and we the people always search for Miniket when going to purchase rice,” he said.

Mosammat Nazmanara Khanum, secretary to the food ministry, who was present in the programme, said the BRRI-28 and BRRI-29 varieties of paddy and Najirshaile is being sold in the market in the name of Miniket.
