Ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia and Shimulia-Kathalia routes on the Padma disrupted due to dense fog.

The ferry services were suspended around 1am Tuesday due to low visibility amid dense fog, said Abu Abdullah, assistant manager of BIWTC at Daulatdia terminal.

“Seven ferries are stranded in the river while 500 vehicles are waiting on both sides of the route,” he told on Tuesday morning.

The services on the Shimulia-Kathalia route were halted around the same time when beacon lights could no longer be seen due to fog, said Shah Newaz Khaled, assistant general manager of BIWTC at the Shimulia terminal.

“Six ferries with passengers on board are stranded in the river,” he said. “More than 500 vehicles were found waiting at the terminals until 8am Tuesday.”

The ferry crossing routes on river Padma play a vital role in connecting 21 south-western districts with the capital Dhaka and eastern districts of the country, according to bdnews24.

Fog disrupts ferry services on these routes every winter.
