Focus most on basic rights: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called on the police to give the highest importance to people’s basic and human rights and the rule of law while discharging their duties.

Stressing on gaining trust through providing service and humane attitude, she said at a police passing out parade in Rajshahi on Wednesday that it was urgently needed.

Hasina directed the police personnel to show polite and sophisticated attitude towards women and children.

"You must play the role of leaders to eliminate crimes from society by formulating people-friendly police through involving them.”

The Prime Minister also asked the police force to fulfill the expectation of people. "For that skilled, a professional and pro-people police service, and we're firmly determined to formulating that," she said.

Mentioning that the government has gained success in uprooting terrorism from the country, she said drug is pushing society towards the path of destruction like a disease.

Hasina said she has the belief that the police force will be successful in eliminating the drug from Bangladesh as they did in uprooting militancy.

The Prime Minister took salute and inspected the parade.

Then she distributed medals among M Salman Farsi, Asma Akhter Sonia and Mahbub Hossain for their outstanding performance in different fields of the course, UNB reported.

Earlier on her arrival at the Sarda Police Academy, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary and Principal of the academy Additional Inspector General Md Nazibur Rahman received her.

ASP Probationer Swandip Sarker conducted the parade as parade commander while Probationer ASP Imar Uddin was its second-in-command.

Among the trainees, Sandeep Sarker received the award of 'Best Probationer' while Mashukur Rahman got the award of 'Best Academic' and Md Belal Hossain the award of the 'Best Horsemanship' from the Prime Minister.
