BOGURA, Sept 06: A good number of people in the district have attained financial solvency by cultivating varieties of flower.
A decade ago, farmers of Sadar, Shibganj, Shajahanpur and Sherpur upazilas of the district were mostly dependent on paddy, vegetable and other cereal crop production.
But, the present scenario of the area has totally changed as diversified agriculture is expanding fast in the area.
Authority concerned also help the growers by providing all types of help.
"Every year flowers worth Tk 20 million are produced in the area", said a nursery owner Akram Hossain in Mohasthan village under Shibganj upazila.
"I have made over Tk 0.2 million this season growing chapa, rose, tuberose and jasmine flowers on my 10 decimals land," said farmer Harun-or-Rashid of Shibganj upazila.
"I am expecting to make over Tk 0.1 million this season from rest of flowers." he added.
Sources said wholesalers do advance payment to the flower farmers.
Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Protul Chandra Sarker said, "We have provided all support to the flower growers to make the farming programme a success.
